Production final steps 4 Years, 8 Months ago
|
|
After several months of delay, finally the Barricades are reaching the end of the tunnel...
Just some little retouch here and there. After that I will test the final product to see that everything is on the right place.
Within the pack also different skins: green camouflage, desert camouflage, plain concrete and the Vanilla scheme for User textures.
I hope to launch the set soon with a short Trailer I am working on.
The set will be made up of the following pieces:
straight
external curve
internal curve
straight support for upper floor
curved support for upper floor
lateral wall for support
little wall for upper floor
Soon an image preview.

Finally some more progress! The first beta built is on the way. I will wait for first responses to produce the final release.

The beta test on straight module is started. First results are encouraging; some more little tricks are needed on textures.
Also the trailer is gain positions. I need some speakers for the simple dialogues.
Who wants to take part offering his/her voice?

Those look pretty good. Will they be available with just a plain concrete texture (instead of camouflage) as well?
A little building with a removable roof would complement this set well. Or do you have another set planned that focusses on base structures like buildings and bunkers?
A movie trailer? Oh boy! I'll get some popcorn and wait.

Hi Eric, glad to hearing from you again!
Yes, the available textures are: green camouflage, desert camouflage, plain concrete and Vanilla Sheet for User Texture.
The basic set will include only Barricades, so that gamers can start easy with them and leave the price lower. Later I will add some add-on as complement like platforms, turrets, buildings, etc. Also depending on the customer feedback.
About the Trailer, it is already done. i need to implement the system to be seen here. Probably YouTube. The file is 50Mbyte in size for only 1 minute!

Hi all,
finally the Trailer is completed and available at the Main page of this site.
The file was reduced to only 8Mbyte in Flash and hosted directly here.
Feel free to comment it here with suggestions and new ideas.
Consider this as my first Trailer, so please be patient about the many bugs or style errors:silly:
Now, let's go to complete the set itself! By the way, the second test build was successful and I will proceed fast toward more tests.

Cool! The beginnings of the Earth Force movie.
Things I like;
-The group picture of the Marines standing next to the trailer-they look like a recruiting poster.
-The opening of the windswept rocky planet is good for setting mood and tone.
-The camera moves at a good speed that doesn't make my head spin with crazy angles and jerky speeds. I've really come to appreciate good camera work.
-I can plainly see all the individual pieces that make up sections so I get a pretty good idea of what pieces are in the set and some of the possible configurations.
Things that could use work;
-The wind sound is good at the beginning, becomes annoying after a while. My suggestion is to start fading the volume on that effect by 20% after the camera crosses over the outer wall and starts showing the base interior.
-The camera stopped moving when the generator? satellite relay? planetary siege gun? started powering up. I could see something interesting was happening over there, I wanted the camera to get closer and show me the device from some different angles like it did on the rest of the base.
-What is that thing anyways? Will it be in the set? It looks interesting, but if it's not in the set then showing it in this promotional trailer is of dubious value imho.
Thanks for the progress video, it's fun!

Wow Eric! That is a very professional review of the Trailer.
I will take it under strong consideration and plan to apply the modifications you underlined.
I was thinking the same things like you, but after several days/months you see on the screen the same frame, believe me, you risk to go crazy:hyper . So, I decided to put an end and show the Trailer.
About the sounds, I wanted to add more of them, mainly human voices, but no one helped me (my bed english would have obtained the opposite result). The wind is noisy because it is loud; when it is windy, it is constantly ever, so it must remain. I will adjust the volume as you said: after the first building it will be lowered in background.
The last model is not included into the basic Barricades set. It is more a prelude to an add-on. I liked it and some time was spent on it, so I desired to make you see it. You are right: the camera can at least move aside to see it from a different angle. It is an example of how you can use the Barricades. Anyway the Base will be improved by other structures: a platform for aeroships, a portal for missiles, house buildings, etc.
The object itself is a receiver-transmitter rotor. It is the common module for every chapter of the story, even if with different shapes. In every terrain you will see a receiver-transmitter. The satellite will join some of them.
Pop Corn for everyone!

Yes!
They look good so far, it just occurred to me; do you have anything like a gate or fortified entrance in this set?

Nope!
The set was born as a simple Barricades set. Step by step it became a fortification and you are right: it's needed an entrance, even if you can easily jump over the ground level:silly:
The gate will be in a list of add-on:
Gate
Buildings with removable roof
Bridge
Sentinel Turret (this is already done but the textures)
Elevator
Base for aeroships
Receiver-Transmitter (have you seen it on the Trailer?)
Other suggested...

I saw the Receiver-Transmitter from afar in the video, have you reworked the Trailer ending? I would like a closer look at that.
As for buildings...there's a long list of types that could be available on a military base. But, since it's for a military base, and you plan to have removable roofs, you could use the same basic templates for design and texturing of the exteriors for many of the buildings and have different interiors for barracks, armory, infirmary, operating room, brig, nuclear weapons storage, holo-tank for tactical intelligence briefings, etc. And then have a few small props that can be added to building exteriors to further help define their purpose - intake fans, vents, pipes, communications relay, power relay, etc.
